Life as a PhD student at SCIENCE
The best of both worlds
As a PhD student you get the best of two worlds: The world of the researcher and the student world.
- You will have a set project to work your way through – but are your own boss and you have the freedom to explore and create.
- You will be responsible for your own project - but you will always have supervisors to support and guide you.
- You will be required to teach - but you will also have the freedom to participate in the courses that match your particular interests.
International conferences and new input
The PhD students at SCIENCE have the opportunity to participate in conferences worldwide. There you will get a chance to meet fellow scientists and get new ideas from interacting with new people.
Skills that are useful anywhere
In addition, you will be required to learn more about project management and the communication of science. These are skills that will be useful even if you choose to leave academia and work for the industry or in the public sector.
There will be challenges
It can be tough and you will get challenging periods. But it is so cool when your experiments actually fit with your hypotheses and you find yourself standing in front of an audience, communicating your ideas and your results. That feeling – of having created something that is interesting and useful for a broader audience – will be a great motivator. We hope that you will come to SCIENCE and try it out yourself.
