PhD Committee
The PhD Committee plays a central role in securing the quality of the PhD programmes at the faculty and your PhD education at SCIENCE.
The committee consists of ten members, five senior researchers (VIP) and five PhD student representatives, all elected by their peers. One of the senior researcher members is appointed as chair of the committee.
The PhD Committee collaborates closely with the Head of the PhD School. Together they comprise the academic management of the PhD School of SCIENCE. The PhD committee is involved in the quality assurance of the individual PhD programmes and in the making of the rules and guidelines of the PhD education. Further, the committee provide inputs and gives feedback in matters of the general PhD strategy of the PhD school. While the committee convenes regularly, the chair will act on behalf of the committee in routine matters on a daily business. Thus, the task of the chair is to approve:
- PhD courses offered at the Faculty of Science, following submission of a course description from the local PhD Coordinator.
- Each PhD student’s completed courses, following submission of a complete course list from the principal supervisor or the local PhD Coordinator.
- Applications for credit transfer and general dispensations from the standard requirements.
- The composition of PhD thesis assessment committees.
- If the Chairman of the PhD Committee is disqualified (inhabil) during the evaluation of a specific case, another senior researcher who is a member of the PhD Committee temporarily takes up the Chairman’s duties.
