Short description of the thesis
The establishment of a quantum internet is a technological leap yet to be fully realised, which will enable many new applications including secure communication and enhanced sensing. As we edge closer to this aim, previous assumptions behind the theory and novel protocols has to be examined.
In this thesis we investigate three parts of the quantum internet. We first investigate the photon pair sources used to connect two different quantum computers, and how a more realistic description influences performance. We then examine novel protocols to connect clients with a quantum computer inside a metropolitan network. Finally, we look at gate proposal between quantum dots, which is an essential ingredient in a next generation quantum internet.
