Short description of the thesis
Fluorescent molecules are widely used in bioimaging, sensing and advanced optical materials, however, their performance strongly depends on what happens after they absorb light. This thesis investigates how molecular structure, surrounding environment and molecular organization control these ultrafast excited-state processes. The work explains the fluorescence switching of a widely used pH probe and reveals how energy moves through densely packed fluorescent nanoparticles. The results show how charge transfer, molecular packing, energy migration and trapping determine fluorescence efficiency, providing new insight for the rational design of bright and efficient fluorescent materials.
